Light My Fire is certainly one of The Doors' / Jim Morrison most famous songs; recorded on the 1966 album of the same name and released as a single only a year later, in 1967, it is considered a masterpiece by the American rock band. Rolling Stone has positioned the song at number 35 among the 500 best songs ever and VH1 has also included it in its ranking, among the songs of the century (at seventh position).
The song was born from a composition that had not been finished by Robby Krieger, guitarist of the band. The band chose to finish the same, coming up with a version over seven minutes long. Although the song credits all the members of the band, much of the lyrics were written by Krieger.

Jim Morrison also took care of some of the content, especially the final part. The song had good media coverage, immediately ending up in the US Bilboard chart and remaining there for three weeks. The following year he returned, thanks to the cover by Josè Feliciano.
Among the numerous covers of Light My Fire, the most fortunate was certainly that of Josè Feliciano, made a year after (1968) the publication of the single. The Puerto Rican cover earned him the Grammy Award for "Best Pop Male Performance". However, it is not the only cover that has been made of the piece.

The fame of the piece derives, in fact, also from the numerous reinterpretations that have been made by various and disparate artists. We mention a few: Alicia Keys, Massive Attack, Amorphis, Train, Will Young.
